A Look at the Most Exciting Tech Releases of 2025

Every year, the tech world is abuzz with new product launches, app updates, and innovative advancements while we bid farewell to older technologies. The year 2024 brought us remarkable innovations, from Meta’s futuristic Orion AR glasses to Huawei’s groundbreaking tri-fold phone, showcasing the rapid pace of technological evolution.

As we enter 2025, excitement builds for what’s on the horizon. Here’s a closer look at some of the most thrilling upcoming tech releases that are expected to shape our lives, including a mix of officially announced products and those that are still speculative or rumoured:

Samsung AR glasses

Samsung is set to revolutionise the augmented reality (AR) landscape with its upcoming smart glasses. Designed for everyday wear, these stylish glasses are poised to give Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses a tough fight. First teased in 2023 alongside the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series, the AR glasses are being developed in partnership with Qualcomm, which will provide the chipset. Google’s Gemini large language model will enhance its AI capabilities. With a rumoured 155mAh battery, 50-gram weight, and a 12MP Sony camera, Samsung’s glasses are poised to redefine the future of AR. While specific details remain under wraps, the company aims to launch its first AR glasses in 2025.

Apple’s smart display

Apple, renowned for its high-quality products, is set to enter the smart home market with a new smart display. Rumoured to feature a 6- to 7-inch OLED display, the device is expected to resemble Amazon’s Echo Show and may include a rotatable or detachable design. The smart display will run on a new operating system called homeOS, based on the same technology that powers Apple TV and HomePod. It will include Apple apps like Calendar, Notes, and Home, and prototypes tested with magnets for wall mounting. The smart display will also support Apple Intelligence, a feature not currently available on HomePods.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, envisions this smart display as a central hub for controlling other Home products, aiming to put Apple in direct competition with rivals like Amazon and Google in the smart home space. This product has been developing for the past three years and is expected to launch in March 2025.

Samsung’s trifold phone

Following the success of Huawei’s tri-fold phone in the Chinese market, Samsung is gearing up to launch its own tri-fold device. According to ZDNet Korea, the tech giant plans to release two new foldable phones in 2025: an affordable clamshell-style model and a tri-fold model, which can fold in multiple directions. Samsung Display’s partners have already completed developing and commercialising components for the tri-fold model. However, the head of Samsung Electronics’ MX division will decide whether to launch the device.

Samsung first introduced the concept of a tri-fold smartphone at the Samsung Developers Conference in October 2023, but it did not launch then. Despite this delay, the company appears committed to pursuing this innovative design. The Huawei Mate XT is the only tri-fold smartphone on the market, making Samsung’s upcoming entry a highly anticipated development in the competitive landscape of foldable technology.

Powerbeats Pro 2

When a product becomes popular, anticipation for its successor often grows even stronger. Fitness enthusiasts’ favourite wireless earbuds, the Powerbeats Pro, are set for a significant update after over five years since their initial launch. Apple is set to release the Powerbeats Pro 2 in 2025, with the original model now discontinued

In September 2024, Apple shared a teaser video announcing the arrival of these new earbuds, featuring basketball player Shohei Ohtani showcasing the updated design. The Powerbeats Pro 2 earphones appear to have subtle design tweaks compared to the original 2019 model. The new model includes a smaller size and a thinner ear hook for enhanced comfort. Additionally, the casing outside the ear seems to be reduced in size.

Rumours also suggest that the Powerbeats Pro 2 will include a heart rate sensor, further expanding its functionality in the health and fitness arena. This new model will join the expanding Beats earbuds lineup, including the Solo Buds, Studio Buds, Studio Buds Plus, and Fit Pro.

iPhone 17 Air

Apple is set to shake things up with the iPhone 17 series, potentially introducing a revolutionary new model: the iPhone 17 Air. This ultra-slim device, rumoured to be the thinnest iPhone ever created, is expected to replace the ‘Plus’ model in the 2025 lineup.

As per various reports, this new model is anticipated to be significantly thinner, with a thickness ranging from 5mm to 6mm, compared to the thicker iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, which measure 7.8mm and 8.25mm, respectively. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air is positioned as a more affordable option within the lineup, featuring a simplified camera system that aims to reduce production costs while providing a compelling device for users. This makes the iPhone 17 Air a compelling choice for those looking for a premium yet budget-friendly iPhone experience.
