CES 2024 weird gadgets

CES 2024’s Gadgets Take Tech to a New Dimension

At America’s largest trade show, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, companies from around the world seized the opportunity to unveil innovative applications that highlight  AI’s capability to revolutionize communication, business practices, and caregiving.

Alongside these innovations, CES 2024 showcased a plethora of unconventional gadgets, pushing the boundaries of technology to new and unpredictable areas of life. From a screenless laptop featuring a 100-inch virtual display to a smart mirror designed to enhance mental wellness, the event presented a diverse range of cutting-edge innovations that captured the imagination of attendees.

In this article, we will feature three wacky gadgets that stole the spotlight at this premier tech event.

BMind smart mirror: AI-powered wellness in your reflection

In one of the most impressive showings of the CES 2024, Baracoda’s BMind Smart Mirror utilizes AI-powered facial recognition and natural language processing (NLP) to evaluate your mood by analyzing facial expressions, gestures, and tones. The mirror then customizes a response – using different strains of light therapy, guided meditations, and affirmations to elevate mood and relieve stress.

The foundation of BMind lies in the CareOS operating system built by Baracoda which converts any screen into a smart mirror. CareOS also allows third-party providers to connect their applications for display within the mirror’s interface. Among 40 providers already compatible with CareOS, BMind has partnered with ThrivePal, an AI-powered coach that crafts bespoke programs for personalized self-improvement, and Inclusive Brains, a proprietary combination of generative AI and neurophysiology to empower devices to sense and adapt to how people feel in real time.

Equipped with advanced features like voice recognition, a 4K ultra-HD camera, and FaceID for security, the mirror ensures smooth operation while prioritizing user privacy. Alongside its focus on mental wellness, the smart mirror offers personalized beauty functionalities such as guided teeth brushing, skin analysis, and monitoring of bathroom water temperature.

BMind earned a prestigious CES Innovation Award in the smart home category. Priced starting at £391.25, the BMind smart mirror is scheduled for release in the final quarter of 2024.

The smart cat door keeping unwanted ‘gifts’ outside

Designed by Swiss startup Flappie Technologies, the Flappie AI-powered cat door utilizes motion sensors and advanced AI vision technology to recognize when your cat tries to bring small animals inside. If Flappie detects any unwanted “gifts,” it automatically locks the door, preventing your cat from entering until it drops its prey.

Curious about its accuracy? The startup assures that its AI detection system is correct over 90% of the time through microchip specific actions, device-powered off/on switches, and continuous development.

The startup plans to launch the cat flap in Switzerland and Germany later this year, with prices set at £312 or £155 with a two-year subscription to the app at £6.96 per month, allowing access to all recorded pet videos. Expansion to additional regions is on the horizon as production scales up.

PureWash E930 bidet seat offers ultimate customization

Consumer durables brand Kohler dives deeper into home tech with the PureWash E930 bidet seat. What more can a bidet seat offer than its traditional features, you ask? With third-party integrations such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home compatibility, you can now activate the bidet spray, warm air dryer, and UV cleaning features.

Like most features at CES 2024, personalization and customization of technology to suit individual needs is a prominent selling point.

Users can adjust the water temperature and pressure according to their preferences and select between oscillating or pulsating spray options. The PureWash E930 is currently available for purchase on Kohler’s website for £1,681.

Distilled

CES 2024 ushered in a flurry of unconventional gadgets entering the market, each vying for attention and acclaim. With a focus on customization, personalization, and optimizing health and wellness, this year’s products serve as a testament to the relentless pursuit of innovation in all areas of life – including your bathroom.
